Kids Fun and Games

Games for children ages 5-12. Activities include face and painting, a tennis workshop. No fee. F&M Park, 201 Railroad Ave.

Teen Volleyball Tournament

Teams limited to six members. Division ages 12-15 and 16-19. Players under 18 will need a parent signature. Pre-registration required. Traverse City West End Park Beach Volleyball Courts on Grandview Parkway.

Cherry Connection: Bringing Together Festival, Farm, and Fruit

Join Michigan State University Extension at 100-acre research farm in Leelanau County. Guided orchard tours, kids events, exhibits and samples of cherry products. Cherry Connection Shuttle picks up and drops off on the west side of the Traverse City Visitor’s Center on Garland Street every half hour from 9:30 a.m. until noon. At Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center, 6686 S. Center Highway.

Festival Souvenir Tent

Browse t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, coffee mugs, hats, kids clothing, cherry jewelry and more. Festival Open Space Marketplace at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Million Dollar Hole-in-One Golf Contest

The closest to the pin qualifiers will return July 6 for a shot at $1 million. Bay Meadows Golf Course; 5550 Bay Meadows Drive.

Ultimate Air Dogs

Featuring nearly a hundred “dog athletes” and their owner-trainers competing for advancement in the regional competition. Pre-registration required. Log onto Traverse City West End Beach Volleyball Courts on Grandview Parkway.

Beer Tent

Open from noon to 11 p.m. each day. Must be 21 years or older to enter have a 2013 commemorative pin. Festival Open Space Park North at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.


Two sessions from 12-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Must be 18 years or older. Festival Open Space Park East, corner of Union Street and Grandview Parkway.

Kids Cherry Pie-Eating Contest

Age classifications from pre-school to 12 years old. F&M Park, 201 Railroad Ave.


4:45 p.m.

Touchstone Energy Junior Royale Parade Registration

Kids ages 1-14 can register to participate in 12 parade categories including bikes, cherry people, cardboard floats, pets and daycare. No fee required. Register at F&M Park, 201 Railroad Ave.

5 p.m.

Fifth Third Bank Golden Mile

Men’s and women’s elite mile road race on a USATF-certified loop-style course through downtown, concluding on the corner of Front and Union streets. Racers will be high-level collegiate and professional runners selected by race directors. To apply, minimum performance standards of 4:10 for the men’s mile and 4:55 in the women’s mile are required. Front and Union streets.

6 p.m.

Carter’s Kids Fun Run

Carter Oosterhouse will run start the one-mile race for kids of all ages along the National Cherry Festival’s Touchstone Energy Junior Royale Parade route downtown. Each participant will receive an official race bib, a medal and refreshment. Families are encouraged to pre-register children online, and onsite registration will also be available at on-site 5 p.m. F&M Park, corner of Railroad and State streets.

6:30 p.m.

Touchstone Energy Junior Royale Parade

Kids parade features the National Cherry Festival Prince and Princess court representing 27 local Elementary schools. Kids can sign up under categories starting at 4:45 p.m. at F&M Park. Front to Union to 7th streets.


10:30 p.m.

Fourth of July Fireworks

West Grand Traverse Bay; Fireworks can be seen from the Festival Open Space.
