Construction to cause lane closures

TRAVERSE CITY — Workers will replace a sewer main on the alley south of 7th Street, causing lane closures on Division Street.

Two Division Street lanes will be closed from around 6th and 7th street on May 28 and 29 for construction. Traffic will continue through the remaining two lanes, with one lane for each direction.

The reconstruction is part of a larger project to widen the sanitary sewer main in the alley. Molon Excavating contracted with Traverse City to replace a pipe that’s 6 inches in diameter with pipes of 8 or 10 inches in diameter.

“It passes solids better and reduces the chance of blockage,” said Alexander Yockey, a civil engineer II for Traverse City.

The main passes wastewater, such as from showers and toilets, to the wastewater treatment plant.
