Second body in Antrim County tent confirmed as brother

MANCELONA — A DNA analysis confirmed that the second body found in a tent in rural Antrim County belonged to one of two brothers last seen walking into nearby woods in August.

Robert Eric Nothstine, 51, remained officially unidentified for weeks after people looking for deer antler sheds in Custer Township stumbled across a tent with two decomposed bodies inside.

A forensic autopsy confirmed one body belonged to Daniel Lloyd Nothstine, 56, and investigators presumed the other must have belonged to Robert Nothstine. Authorities withheld a positive identification until a DNA analysis came back and confirmed it.

The brothers walked into the woods near the Cedar River with a borrowed tent in hand last summer and were never seen alive again.

Investigators still haven’t pinned down a cause of death.
