Memorial Day-related services across the region

TODAY

Long Lake Township Memorial Day Service, noon, Linwood Cemetery, Church Road, Traverse City.

SATURDAY

St. Mary Quilt Sale-Show-Raffle, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at St. Mary Church Social Hall, 307 S. St. Mary St., Lake Leelanau. More than 50 quilts on display and available to purchase. Quilt raffle features “Trip Around the World” quilt created by Eunice Linguar. Raffle tickets $1 each or six for $5. Mesick Area Museum, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., an exhibit honoring area veterans, admission is free; 117 Mesick Ave., Mesick; www.mesickmuseum.com.

Memorial Day observance, 11 a.m., at the Civil War/GAR Memorial in Benzonia Township Cemetery, to remember the area’s Civil War veterans and all veterans. A Civil War/GAR flag holder will be placed on the grave of a Civil War veteran, a poem will be recited and lilacs also will be placed at the memorial. The public is invited to come and bring flowers to place at the Civil War memorial or at a veteran’s grave. Benzie Area Historical Society volunteers will be on hand to direct attendees to the graves of Civil War veterans. For details, call 882-5539 or visit www.benziemuseum.org.

Memorial Day service and open house, 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Village of Norwood Cemetery, refreshments served following the service at the Norwood Schoolhouse; Charlevoix.
