NMC instructors receive honors

TRAVERSE CITY — A committee of Northwestern Michigan College students bestowed the college's annual faculty excellence awards to a social science instructor and a math instructor.

Lisa Blackford, a social work and psychology instructor, won the Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award. Julie Puckett, an adjunct algebra instructor, won the Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award.

Both staff members learned about their awards at NMC's graduation ceremony on May 3.

Blackford joined the NMC staff in 2002 and began teaching as an adjunct educator in 2006, according to a college press release. She became a full-time instructor in 2011.

Puckett started at the college as an adjunct instructor in 2001.

Another NMC employee, Great Lakes Maritime Academy Engineering Department head Michael Hochscheidt, was honored for his work as a teacher May 3.

He earned the Merchant Marine Outstanding Achievement Medal after teaching at the academy for 35 years.
