Autopsy confirms body belonged to missing man

TRAVERSE CITY — City police identified a body plucked from the waters in the marina at Clinch Park as a Petoskey-area man who vanished from a hospital.

Jeremy Zerbe, 35, walked away from Munson Healthcare's behavioral health services building late Feb. 25. Zerbe left his wallet and other belongings. He had struggled with depression.

A two-month search by Zerbe's family and police ended Monday afternoon when a woman spotted his body floating under a wooden swim platform in the marina's choppy waters.

Traverse City Police Capt. Mike Ayling said medical examiners in Grand Rapids this morning confirmed the body belonged to Zerbe based on distinctive tattoos. He said the body showed no signs of foul play and examiners ruled the death as accidental cold water drowning.
