TRAVERSE CITY — Some area Boy Scouts are going old school this weekend.
The River Trails District Spring Camporee takes place Friday through Sunday in Leelanau County at Polack Lake on the north side of M-72, just east of County Road 669. Boy Scouts Unit Commissioner Jim Mills said the weekend will involve scouts learning and performing tasks that have a long history in scouting.
“We are trying to do everything they did in the 1950s and ‘60s,” Mills said.
The agenda includes knots and rope splicing, animal tracking, fire starting, semaphore signaling, Morse code, cooking and other tasks. The event costs $10 per scout and $12 for walk-ins. For more information email email@example.com.
