Man gets prison for assaulting girlfriend

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A man could spend up to 10 years in prison for assaulting his girlfriend.

Kevin Jacob Yzbick, 38, was sentenced to prison for five to 10 years for assault with intent to do bodily harm; two to five years for possession of a dangerous weapon; and two to four years for assault with a dangerous weapon. The sentences will be served concurrently. He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Yzbick was accused of choking his girlfriend until she thought she was going to lose consciousness in East Bay Township. The woman said a day later Yzbick broke her nose when he slammed her face into the center console of a car and threatened her with a pair of brass knuckles.
