Weather Service issues lake effect snow warning

TRAVERSE CITY — The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning for Leelanau, Benzie and Grand Traverse counties.

People living in those areas could experience up to six to 12 inches of snow through noon Tuesday.

"Lake effect snow notoriously can range from someone gets eight or nine inches of snow to a dusting five miles down the road," said Keith Berger, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Gaylord. "We're looking at some isolated locations that may see readings as high as six to 12 inches."

The NWS also issued a lake effect snow advisory for Kalkaska and Antrim counties through 7 a.m. Tuesday. Those areas could get between three and six inches of snow.
