TRAVERSE CITY — A kayaker was rescued in the East Bay after strong winds and waves swamped his kayak.
A U.S. Coast Guard rescue helicopter spotted a man clinging to his kayak on Friday at 8:50 a.m. The Coast Guard didn’t release the man’s name or hometown, but said he was in the water with a life jacket for more than one hour.
The helicopter’s rescue crew hoisted the man from the water and transported him to the Coast Guard’s Traverse City air station. He was released in good condition.
