TRAVERSE CITY — Diocese of Gaylord officials introduced Bishop-elect Monsignor Steven Raica during a press conference today.
Raica said he looks forward to working with the residents of the Gaylord Diocese.
"United in our faith we form a beautiful tapestry here in northern Michigan," Raica said. "And through our journey together may we encounter the surprising presence of Christ walking with us each step of the way... ."
Pope Francis recently anointed Raica as the fifth bishop of the Gaylord Diocese.
Raica grew up in Munising, on the shores of Lake Superior and most recently served as Chancellor-Vicar General of the Diocese of Lansing.
The Gaylord Diocese has been without a bishop since 2013, when Pope Frances appointed the then-head of the Diocese, the Rev. Bernard A. Hebda, as Coadjutor Archbishop of Newark, N.J.
