Annual Tour de TART bike ride July 25

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails will host the 14th annual Tour de TART bike ride on Friday, July 25.

The event is a one-way bike ride on the TART and Leelanau Trails from Traverse City to Suttons Bay. It starts near the tunnel entrance to Clinch Park between 4-6:30 p.m.. There will be two food stops along the 17-mile paved trail. The flat course is suitable for cyclists of all abilities and ages. Families with young children are encouraged to start their ride between 4-5 p.m. to allow adequate time for rest stops. Riders will finish at Suttons Bay Marina Park, where a bayside meal is planned.

Participants will take a bus ride back to Traverse City, while their bicycles return by truck. There is a special transportation option for Suttons Bay area participants.

Registration for the Tour de TART is capped at 600 riders. Riders can sign-up online at, or pick up a form at the TART office on 148 E. Front St. above Talbot’s.

The cost is $30 for adults and $5 for children through July 10. The cost increases by $5 after that. All proceeds benefit TART Trails. For more

Inter-Rockin Triathlon set for July 13

INTERLOCHEN — The 12th Annual Inter-Rockin Triathlon at Interlochen State Park will be held Sunday, July 13.

The event will feature two triathlon divisions for athletes of all ages and abilities — a Sprint Triathlon (500 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run) and an Olympic Triathlon (1500 meter swim, 40K bike, 10K run).

On the Saturday before the race there will be an open water swim clinic, a preview of the bike and run courses, and a triathlon 101 class.
