Six area players earn first-team All-State honors in softball

TRAVERSE CITY — Alexis Carpenter, who pitched Central Lake into the Division 4 softball quarterfinals, is one of six northern Michigan players selected first-team All-State.

Carpenter, Frankfort shortstop Courtney Bower, Johannesburg-Lewiston outfielder Sydney McKenney and Manton utility player Brittany Brauer were all named to the Division 4 squad.

Boyne City third baseman Paige Hornbeck was first-team in Division 3 while Cheboygan outfielder Aspen Williams received first-team honors in Division 2.

Honorable mention went to Petoskey catcher Makenna Smith in Division 2; McBain pitcher Gabby Hoaglund and Boyne City pitcher Emma Schumaker in Division 3; Glen Lake shortstop Melanie Kulanda, second baseman Olivia Wiltjer, first baseman Madison Hill and pitcher Jessica Penny, Lake Leelanau St. Mary third baseman Abby Thon and pitcher Megan Popp, Frankfort catcher Anna Hunt, Central Lake third baseman Channing Hoogerhyde, and Onaway utility player Lexi Szymoniak in Division 4.
