Grant funding sought for riverfront housing development

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Commission will hold a public hearing about an $880,000 grant application to clean up blight at two Boardman River properties where local developers want to build a high-end housing development.

The county's Brownfield Development Authority is applying for the Community Development Block Grant as developers for the Uptown Riverfront Town Homes prepare to erect 13 multi-story condominiums units at the intersection of Pine and State streets.

Jean Derenzy, the county's deputy director of planning and development, said officials will explain how they plan to use the $880,000 grant during the public hearing, scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Governmental Center.

See Wednesday's Record-Eagle for more details.
