---- — SUTTONS BAY — A Suttons Bay man, 24, was arrested after authorities said he drove drunk and crashed into a bank.
Deputies responded Thursday at about 1:15 a.m. to a report of a pickup truck that crashed into the front of Fifth Third Bank on St. Joseph’s Street in Suttons Bay.
A witness said the truck fishtailed into the building and drove away.
A patrol unit located the suspected vehicle near Suttons Bay High School, and the driver denied crashing into the building.
The man failed field sobriety tasks and admitted to smoking marijuana that evening, deputies said. He was arrested and registered a .25 blood-alcohol content.
The suspect later told deputies he got into a disagreement with another patron at a local establishment and was afraid he was going to be assaulted. He lost control of the vehicle when speeding away and crashed into the bank.
The man told authorities he didn’t report the accident because he was drunk.
He is charged with operating while intoxicated with a high BAC, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of marijuana.
