TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College officials deemed the 58th Annual NMC Barbecue a success with total ticket sales of 10,063.
Total gross revenues totaled more than $72,800. That’s within $500 of last year’s event, making the 2013 picnic one of the highest-grossing NMC Barbecues in history.
“Our final accounting should be done at the end of the month, but based on our gross revenue, we should have raised more than $54,000,” said NMC spokesman Andy Dolan. “Last year, after expenses, we raised $54,956.”
More than 8,500 meals were served, including 232 home-delivered meals in conjunction with the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging.
Proceeds from this year’s Barbecue will provide more than $48,000 in funding for nine NMC projects.
NMC officials thanked the hundreds of volunteers who set up the event, cooked, cleaned up, and did scores of other tasks. They also thanked the Oleson family, which has generously donated all the food for every NMC Barbecue and provides immeasurable logistical support.
