Two drown in Grand Traverse County

TRAVERSE CITY — Two people drowned Sunday in separate incidents in Grand Traverse County.

Grand Traverse sheriff’s deputies and Fife Lake medical personnel were dispatched to Fife Lake at 5:30 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive male in the water. Civilians attempted CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

The Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Department Marine Division responded at 6 p.m. to the Sands Motel, 1465 U.S. 31, on report of a missing teen.

Deputies found the victim, identified as a Wyandotte teen, 16, in about 5 feet of water and 60 yards from the beach. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Flight EMS and Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department personnel also responded.

Authorities did not release the victims’ identities. Both incidents remain under investigation.
