SUTTONS BAY —
Suttons Bay Floatilla final count: 1,750 kayakers and canoeists.
It wasn't enough to break the Guinness Book of Records of 1,902, but enough to whet interest in another try next year.
Organizers of the massive Saturday paddle event were far from disappointed at Monday's official count after putting down their magnifying glasses and aerial photographs and reconciling the figure with the number of boater registrations, organizer Kate Thornhill said.
"We're totally thrilled," she said. "It was a great event. People were happy. It was fun, well organized, no one was injured. And we raised a lot of money for the schools."
Additional details of the event will appear in Wednesday's Record-Eagle.
