LELAND — A man convicted of drug conspiracy was arrested for returning to the country after deportation and possession of marijuana.
Deputies and members of the Traverse Narcotics Team arrested Raul T. DelToro, 34, of Texas, Monday from a relative’s Lake Leelanau apartment in Leland Township.
DelToro was deported to Mexico in 2006 after serving a federal prison term for charges of interstate travel in aid of racketeering, drug conspiracy and trafficking. He was in the country illegally when he was sentenced in 2005, deputies said.
Authorities said DelToro was an associate of Matthew O’Non of Suttons Bay, who is serving two life sentences for the murder of two people in 2004 over a $30,000 unpaid marijuana debt. Eight men were convicted in federal court for drug conspiracy-related charges in an investigation by the FBI and Leelanau County Sheriff’s Department.
DelToro had a small amount of marijuana in his possession when he was arrested, deputies said. He remains lodged in Leelanau County jail pending federal action for illegal re-entry into the country.
