Benzie recounts don't change outcomes

BEULAH — Recounts in four Benzie County elections did not change any of the outcomes.

Election officials could not recount Benzonia Township to determine the winner of county commission District 4 because the ballot bag was not properly sealed, said county Clerk Dawn Olney. Republican challenger Glen Rineer's two-vote victory over incumbent Democrat Anne Damm will stand.

The recounts in the other three townships gained a total of just two votes for the challengers.

Democrat Paul Beechraft will remain Inland Township supervisor after the recount didn't change his nine-vote win margin.

Democrat Chelsie Tanner gained one vote but still loses by 12 to Republican Matt Emery for supervisor of Joyfield Township.

Homestead Township treasurer candidate Calvin Garber also gained one vote, but fell far short of the 231 votes he needed to defeat Republican Shelley Rosa.
