TRAVERSE CITY — Bob Cole, Traverse City's director of public services, announced his retirement after 13 years overseeing the maintenance of city streets, parks, water and sewer systems, marina and cemetery operations.
Cole, 60, spent 22 years in the U.S. Army. He retired as a Lt. Colonel before moving to Traverse City to run the DPS.
Cole's announcement came less than two weeks after City Manager Ben Bifoss informed the city commission he will retire effective June 28. Cole doesn't plan to stay that long. His last day will be May 6.
Bifoss appointed Dave Green, a 25-year city employee and assistant city engineer to replace Cole on an interim basis. Bifoss said Green's appointment will be subject to confirmation by the next city manager.
