Drug charge dropped

TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities dismissed a felony drug charge against a Traverse City man accused of possessing a designer drug.

Tyler Joseph Williams, 19, in September pleaded no contest to operating while intoxicated and use of controlled substances, both misdemeanors. Eighty-sixth District Court Judge Michael Haley sentenced Williams to 30 days of jail, with credit for time served.

In April, a state police trooper stopped Williams’s vehicle and arrested him when he showed signs of intoxication, the police report states. Prosecutors added a felony possession of a controlled substance charge months later after items in Williams’ vehicle were found to contain 2C-C-NBOMe, a designer drug with hallucinogenic properties.

Williams faced six charges in the case, but most were dropped with the plea.
