Thrift shop invites kids to shop for family members

TRAVERSE CITY — Kids are invited to shop for their family at an upcoming Secret Santa Shopping Day at the Women’s Resource Center Thrift Shop.

“Santa Claus gives each kid $10 in coupons, and the kid gets to go shopping for his parents and family members,” said Debra Carlton, a thrift shop employee.

Kids get to sit on Santa’s lap at the store and receive $10 in Santa bucks.

“West Middle Schools will be here to take the little kids shopping so their parents can’t see what they’re buying. The middle schoolers love it!” Carlton said. “After the kids pick something out, they take them in the back room, where we have gift wrappers, or they can wrap it themselves.”

All kids are welcome; last year, about 200 children took part, Carlton said.

The event takes place at the Women’s Resource Thrift Shop, 3030 U.S. 31, on Dec. 15, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
