GRAWN — A Cherry Growers Inc. employee’s discovery of a “suspicious device” brought a state police bomb squad to the fruit processor’s Grawn building.
Grand Traverse County sheriff’s Lt. Chris Clark said investigators are conducting tests to determine if the device found Monday about 7:15 a.m. at the 6331 U.S. 31 South location was indeed a bomb.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call and received assistance from the Michigan State Police bomb squad and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A Traverse City police explosive detection dog was also on scene.
Authorities didn’t release specific details about the device.
Clark said the investigation uncovered no verbal or written threats associated with the device. He said authorities didn’t order the company to evacuate the building and no one was injured.
Cherry Growers representatives didn’t return calls for comment. The company is offering a reward for information related to the suspicious device, but no exact amount was released as of Monday.
