More areas could be on Traverse library board

TRAVERSE CITY — City commissioners will consider giving up one of its three appointments to broaden geographical representation on the Traverse Area District Library Board.

The Grand Traverse County board would appoint five people all from different county commission districts under the proposal. The city tabled the issue in December over a provision that barred city residents from applying for county appointments.

That provision has been removed, said City Manager Ben Bifoss, and a vote is expected when the commission meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the Governmental Center.

Library officials said its board supports the change even though it will force three board members out when their terms expire: one city resident and two of three who live in Peninsula Township.
