Buckley school officials seek feedback

Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Officials at Buckley Community Schools want feedback from local families about the district’s future.

The district will hold three public discussions this month in an effort to prepare for the next three to five years.

Participants will be asked about what the district does well, what it could do better and what they want to see emphasized in the near future, Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer said.

“We realize we can’t be everything to everybody,” Heitmeyer said. “As we move forward in a crazy education environment that’s all about choice, what niche do we want to have that makes us desirable?”

Heitmeyer expects to hear comments related to topics like curriculum, athletics and technology.

Heitmeyer, who will participate in the round tables, also wants to answer questions about Buckley Community Schools and proposed changes to Michigan’s education system.

Other round table participants include Principal Todd Kulawiak, Athletic Director René LaFreniere and members of the district’s Board of Education.

The round tables are scheduled for March 6 at 5 p.m., March 14 at 7 p.m. and March 18 at 6 p.m. They will take place in the school’s cafeteria and will last about an hour.
