Fire destroys auto repair shop

KINGSLEY — Fire destroyed an automotive repair shop.

MDS Automotive, near the corner of Sparling and Blackman roads, caught fire Monday at about 10:30 a.m. Crews fought the blaze for at least a half-hour before they brought it under control. The building is a complete loss.

A home next to the shop sustained minor damage, Grand Traverse Rural Fire Chief Mike Stinson said.

It appears the fire began when a drop light ignited gasoline, Stinson said. One person suffered a minor burn on their hand.

Several units from Grand Traverse Metro and Rural fire departments, along with units from Buckley and Blair Township, responded to the blaze.
