The Franklin prepares to sizzle

TRAVERSE CITY — The business partners stood on the second floor of the new building at Cass and Front streets as a chilly rain cascaded to the streetscape below.

The outdoor patio at soon-to-open The Franklin restaurant proved a fitting site for an interview with Paul and Amanda Danielson and Myles Anton. The restaurateurs responsible for venerable Trattoria Stella are, with The Franklin, reaching higher.

“We really wanted to do something downtown,” Paul Danielson said. “We saw the opportunity here to do more and expand what we do. We’ve been doing essentially the same thing for 10 years at Stella, and while we work very hard not to get stale, growth and change are neat. We are ready to go to the next level.”

The Franklin seeks to further nurture northern Michigan’s touted food culture, and the building it occupies represents an electric change for downtown Traverse City’s business landscape. The new structure by Keen Technical Solutions is quite possibly the most modern, energy-efficient edifice downtown.
