Heavier rains on the way

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City area could see an inch or more of additional rainfall tonight into Friday morning, a meteorologist said.

Mike Boguth of the National Weather Service in Gaylord said as of noon today, about 0.25 inches of rainfall was recorded at Cherry Capital Airport. Boguth said up to 1.25 inches of additional rain could fall by Friday morning.

"The heaviest rain is yet to come," Boguth said. "Some really steady, soaking rains. There is definitely a chance of a rumble of thunder."

A gale wind warning is also in place for Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
