Teenage pedestrian struck by vehicle

TRAVERSE CITY — Motorists struck two pedestrians in two days in Traverse City.

Emergency crews transported a Kaleva boy, 13, to Munson Medical Center this morning after a vehicle struck him near the intersection of Munson Avenue and Cochlin Street.

Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner said the teen tried to run across several lanes of traffic before he crossed the path of a Traverse City man who traveled east on Munson Avenue.

Heffner said the teen was treated for "non-life threatening" injuries to his upper body and head.

The driver wasn't ticketed or found at-fault, unlike another motorist on Tuesday who struck a pedestrian while she turned into a McDonald's parking lot on Front Street.

Heffner said the driver in that incident, a Traverse City woman, didn't see the pedestrian on the sidewalk near the restaurant.

The victim, an Alden woman, was treated for minor injuries to her abdomen. The driver was ticketed for failure to yield.
