Judge cites criminal record in domestic violence sentence

TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man’s history of domestic violence earned him a lengthy prison sentence.

Paul Wayne Maleski Jr., 21, pleaded guilty to a third-offense domestic violence and resisting arrest after authorities said he assaulted his pregnant ex-girlfriend on Aug. 11 outside his father’s Woodmere Avenue business. The incident occurred days after Maleski was bonded out of jail on another domestic violence charge involving his ex-girlfriend.

Thirteenth Circuit Court Judge Thomas Power on Friday referred to Maleski’s lengthy record of “domestic violence and assaultive behavior” before he handed down a 2- to 5-year prison sentence.

“He doesn’t seem to be able to control his behavior, particularly around women,” Power said.
