TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City was a perfect 2-0 in Big North Conference volleyball play Monday.
TC West knocked off visiting Petoskey 25-10, 25-13, 25-20, while TC Central hit the road to best Ogemaw Heights 25-21, 25-8, 25-21.
The Titans (20-6, 5-0 BNC) were led by Katie Placek (16 kills, 16 digs, three blocks), Anna O’Hara (12 kills), Ally Peters (14 digs), Matti Mokanyk (40 assists), Kimmy Bilinski (five kills, six digs), Marie Savoie (2.5 blocks) and Mikenna Ray (six digs).
West travels Wednesday to Gaylord.
TC Central — which improved to 17-10-2, 4-2 BNC and doesn’t play again until hosting TC West on Oct. 2 — was led for the evening by Carissa Bartkowiak (nine kills), Callie Bartkowiak (nine kills) and Emily Jenkins (five aces, six digs).
West also won their junior varsity contest 25-8, 25-21, 25-17, paced by Emily Nunemaker (13 kills, seven digs), Riley Fedewa (six kills), Emma VanderMuelen (26 assists) and Sarah Siever (five kills).
West, Central 10th and 12th at East Lansing
On a chilly day, Traverse City West and TC Central placed 10th and 12th in the East Lansing Invitational at Walnut Hills.
The Titans were 10th with a 399, as Okemos won the title at 332. The Trojans shot 427 for 12th.
West’s Taylor Kehoe was tied for sixth overall with an 85. She was joined by teammates Hunter Kehoe (101), Grace Ellul (102), Emily Northway (111) and Nikki Sanford (115).
Amelia Pezzetti’s 92 led Central, and she was joined by Zoe Sobeck (110), Katie Trubac (111), Abbie Crick (114) and Ashley Hulet (119).
Both team participate in Friday’s Ludington Invitational, but West also plays in the Grayling Invitational today at Forest Dunes in Roscommon.
TC Central JV Black 6
Leelanau County 2
Traverse City City’s JV Black won six of eight matches in a meet against Leelanau County.
The Trojans won three of four matches in both singles and doubles.
In singles, the Trojans received wins by Ron Dohm (7-6, 6-1), R.J. Fenton (2-6, 7-6, 10-8) and Ben Grams (6-1, 6-1), with Leelanau’s Lindsey Boone claiming a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Leelanau’s top doubles team of Cathy Daniel and Cody Hayes posted a 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 win, with Central claiming the other three flights.
The Trojans had doubles victories from Luke Smith/Noah McKenzie (6-1, 6-3), Danny Madion/Joe Videki (6-3, 6-4) and Mack Galente/Nick Friedli (6-4, 6-2).
Benzie Central 6
Alfonso Gomez scored a hat trick to lead Benzie Central to a 6-0 victory over Kingsley.
Devon Burroughs also had two goals and Isaiah zeller posted his second career shutout.
The Huskies (4-4) travel to Buckley today.
