TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man who said he accidentally shot his girlfriend in a failed suicide attempt was arrested today on an outstanding Leelanau County warrant for a probation violation.
Authorities continue investigating the Tuesday death of Monica June Anderson, 28, and haven't filed charges in the case. Anderson's boyfriend Robert Caldwell, 33, told police he was trying to kill himself but accidentally shot her in their Three Mile Road and Aero Park Drive apartment.
Caldwell was released from Munson Medical Center and is currently in Grand Traverse County jail awaiting transfer to Leelanau County's facility on a probation violation warrant. Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner said Caldwell was under 24-hour guard at the hospital after surgery for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand.
Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney met with detectives this morning and is reviewing the case for charges.
