---- — TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Bay Area Intermediate School District Board of Education is now recording its monthly meetings and posting them on its website for public review.

ISD Superintendent Mike Hill said the board decided to test the technology at members’ March meeting and likely will continue recording meetings from now on. His hope is that high school students in the Career Tech Center’s film and new media program will take on the taping, editing and production process as a class project starting in the fall.

“I would foresee next school year that program will be in place for our film and new media students,” he said.

Hill said no one requested the board start recording its meetings, but members decided in February they should give it a shot since most all other local government boards post recordings of their meetings online.

“Our board has been having discussions about it, as other local government boards and public boards do it,” Hill said.

Traverse City Area Public Schools’ board meetings are broadcast on public access television, but Hill said the ISD won’t go that route.

“We’re trying to keep as fiscally responsible as possible with the videotaping,” he said.

Meeting agendas, minutes and videos are posted at www.tbaisd.k12.mi.us. The board’s next meeting is April 15 at 5:30 p.m.
