TRAVERSE CITY -- Union membership that represents Traverse City Area Public Schools' custodial and maintenance employees voted against a tentative contract agreement with the TCAPS board.
The current contract between TCAPS and the Michigan American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 25 expires June 30. Union representatives on Saturday voted against the proposal contract.
The school board planned to vote on the new terms of the agreement at a special meeting Tuesday rather than waiting until the next regular board meeting in April, but negotiating teams on both sides are now back to the drawing board.
School board president Kelly Hall said the agreement would have included heath insurance cost-sharing and a 1 percent salary increase for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years, similar to the board's agreement with the Food Service Employees Association.
She said both sides will continue to negotiate until an agreement is reached.
