TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Area Public Schools board members will meet Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. to consider approving a new contract with a union that represents the district's custodial and maintenance employees. The current contract will expire June 30.
TCAPS board President Kelly Hall said the terms of the tentative agreement are similar to the contract administrators negotiated this month with the Food Service Employees Association. The agreement would include health insurance cost-sharing and a 1 percent salary increase for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years, if approved.
Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees planned to vote on terms at a meeting today.
Hall said board members scheduled a special meeting to discuss the contract because they did not want to wait until their next regular meeting on April 14 to get it on the agenda.
"Membership is scheduled to vote on it (today) and we're not scheduled to meet again until the second Monday of April," Hall said. "We did not want to wait until the middle of April to vote, so we decided to schedule a special meeting."
The board's meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Tompkins Boardman Administration Center, 412 Webster Street, in Traverse City.
