Rec. authority seeks event coordinator
TRAVERSE CITY — The joint recreational authority of Traverse City and Garfield Township won’t wait for a $650,000 makeover of the Cathedra Barn to start planning events.
The recreational authority recently issued a request for proposals for an event coordinator to oversee management of the facility and a natural outdoor amphitheater at the 56-acre Historic Barns Park at the Grand Traverse Commons. Officials expect to begin construction this spring to covert the barn into a year-round public events facility with bathrooms.
Matt Cowall, recreation authority executive director, said planning for larger events begins up to a year in advance so officials wanted to get someone on board as soon as they start construction.
The remodeling could finish as early as October, but Cowall said they expect complications when working with a structure built in 1932.
Bid packages are due March 27. For more information go to: http://www.traversecitymi.gov/recauthority.asp.
