TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City firefighter was injured while helping extinguish a cottage fire.
Traverse City Fire Capt. Michael Onthank said investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the Sunday fire at 420 S. East Bay Blvd. He said neighbors reported the fire while the sole resident was out doing errands.
Flames were visible when crews from Traverse City and Peninsula Township arrived but the fire was quickly brought under control. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen while the rest of the home received smoke damage.
Onthank said a firefighter received a minor injury to his knee during the suppression effort. He said the firefighter was meeting with a doctor Monday to see when he could return to active duty.
