Police: Man jumps out window to avoid arrest

TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities say a Traverse City man jumped out of a second-floor window in an attempt to escape arrest.

Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner said officers responded Friday to a report of a domestic assault on the second floor of a duplex in the 900 block of East Front Street.

The victim, a 20-year-old Traverse City female, was found outside the residenc. She said her boyfriend hit her and he was still inside her apartment on the upper floor.

"The officers go upstairs and he jumps out the second-story window," Heffner said.

The 29-year-old suspect managed to run one block before a police officer who stayed outside the duplex chased him down. Heffner said the suspect continued to resist the officer as he was arrested.

The suspect was held in the Grand Traverse County Jail pending arraignment on charges of resisting arrest and a second domestic violence offense.
