TRAVERSE CITY — A Long Lake Township man could face a strangulation charge from a domestic assault that county dispatchers heard unfold after the suspect’s girlfriend managed to call 911.
Grand Traverse County sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect, 35, on Monday. Lt. Brian Giddis said incident involved a man and woman who got into a heated argument over their relationship that turned into a physical assault.
“She did complain of not being able to breathe, so that counts as strangulation under the statute,” Giddis said.
The victim managed to dial 911 and set her phone down, allowing dispatchers to hear the assault. Giddis said the victim checked into Munson Medical Center but did not suffer any injuries that required medical attention.
The Grand Traverse County prosecutor’s office hasn’t yet received a police report on the case.
