Poetry sought

TRAVERSE CITY — Submissions for the annual Poets’ Night Out will be accepted until Jan. 25.

Poets of all ages living in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee or Wexford counties are invited to submit up to three original poems.

Submissions must be typewritten and include three copies of each poem. The submission fee is $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, with discounts offered for teachers submitting classroom entries.

Winning poets will be selected by a jury and will be asked to read their poem at Poets’ Night Out on April 27, at the Traverse City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. The event is sponsored by the Traverse Area District Library.

Call for art

FRANKFORT — The Oliver Art Center invites area artists to submit work for the Furniture, Fiber and Sculpture Exhibition in honor of Evelyn Sorenson.

Artists may submit up to four pieces created within the past three years that have not been previously exhibited at the art center. The entry fee is $5 for art center members; $10 non-members. Entries should be dropped off at the art center, 132 Coast Guard Road, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 11, and noon-4 p.m. Jan. 12.

The exhibit will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 17, and the exhibit will continue through Feb. 28. For more information, visit www.oliverartcenter or call 352-4151.

Art classes

PETOSKEY — Crooked Tree Arts Center has released its lineup of winter and spring classes.

Winter classes for children, youth and adults begin Jan. 6 and continue through March 1. Spring classes start April 8, just after area schools’ spring break, and continue through May 19. The popular Culinary Series showcasing restaurants and chefs opens Jan. 7 and continues through Feb. 25.
