---- — Man, dog injured in Leelanau crash

SUTTONS BAY — A Lake Leelanau man’s pickup truck ran off the road in a one-vehicle crash, resulting in injuries for both the driver and his canine passenger.

Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich said the driver, 43, lost control of his vehicle Tuesday afternoon while heading west on M-204. The vehicle flew 51 feet through the air near a sharp curve at the intersection with M-637 before landing and ejecting the man’s dog through a window.

Borkovich said an ambulance transported the man to Munson Medical Center while a patrol car drove the dog to a Lake Leelanau veterinary clinic.

“By pure luck, that was the dog owner’s veterinarian,” Borkovich said.

Sheriff’s deputies are currently investigating the crash. Borkovich had no further information about the man’s injuries or the dog’s status.
