Deputies searching for driver who ran

TRAVERSE CITY — Deputies are searching for a man who ran off after a short car chase.

A Grand Traverse Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a man for running a red light on Three Mile Road near Hammond Road at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The driver didn't stop, and instead sped north on Hammond.

The driver tried to turn into the Wood Creek subdivision near South Airport Road and struck a sign there. He got out of his car and entered an unoccupied residence in the subdivision.

Deputies checked the residence and searched the area with a police dog, but they couldn't find him.

The suspect was not positively identified, deputies said. They are investigating evidence gathered at the scene in hopes of identifying him.

The suspect is described as a man about 20 years old with reddish blond hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Department at (231) 995-5152.
