Girl who alleged trail assault no longer cooperating

FROM STAFF REPORTS

— TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities continue to investigate an alleged assault along a local trail.

A girl, 14, said she was grabbed by a man as she walked along the TART trail near Three Mile and Parsons roads on Oct. 23. Grand Traverse Undersheriff Nate Alger said the department is following up on tips and continues to seek and sort out information about the incident, though the alleged victim is no longer cooperating with investigators.

“We have questions about some of the statements made by our victim,” Alger said.

Meanwhile, TART Trails on October 25th hosted a meeting with government officials, local law enforcement agencies, social services organizations, trail neighbors and businesses to discuss the recent troubles — a woman was grabbed on the Boardman Lake Trail Sept. 16 — on local trails.

The group identified specific “limitations or gaps” in safety measures and steps that can be taken to address them, a TART statement said.
