TRAVERSE CITY — Kimmy Bilinski’s 12-foot jumper with 30 seconds to go forced overtime, and in the extra period Traverse City West held Sault Ste. Marie to two points as the Titans opened girls Class A basketball district play with a 33-29 overtime win.
Bilinski led the Titans with 10 points. Kiley Kreple, who had the assist on Bilinski’s game-tying shot in the fourth quarter, added nine points. Paris Wagner pulled down 14 boards.
West (9-11), which has won eight of its last 10 games, iced the game with a pair of free throws each by Kreple and Mikaela Ray.
“We’ve become a pretty solid defensive team,” said West coach Dave Ginsberg. “The girls played with a lot of heart.”
Anne Diepenhorst led Sault Ste. Marie with 17 points.
West will host Marquette on Wednesday. Marquette beat Gaylond 58-49 on Monday.
TC Central 45
Traverse City Central played one of its best games of the year to start postseason action, beating host Petoskey 45-29 in a Class A first-round district contest.
The Trojans led 22-10 and never looked back to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals at home against Alpena.
“We played lights out,” said Central coach Heather Simpson, who returned to the bench after an illness last week. “We haven’t played that way all year. Tonight it was like we were a different team. We’ve talked all year about it’s how you finish. We needed a game like this.”
Callie Bartkowiak led the Trojans (5-16) with 11 points. Hannah Cook had six for Petoskey (1-20).
Benzie Central 41
Manistee’s undefeated season flashed before its eyes when it held a slim 24-22 lead over Benzie Central in the first round of the Class B girls basketball district in Kingsley.
But the Chippewas outscored the Huskies 22-5 in the third period, including a 17-0 run, and they ended up posting a 55-41 win.
Emily Kott had 14 points for Manistee (20-0), Emily Thompson added 13, and Annie Fuller and Audrey Tomaszewski each had nine.
Sara Goodchild led Benzie with 16 points and Alyssa Bennett chipped in with 12.
Manistee moves on to face Kingsley on Wednesday.
McBain pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 52-41 district win over Kalkaska.
The game was tied 24-24 at half and 30-30 after three.
Meredith Hamlet finished with 16 points for the Ramblers (17-2). Katelyn Loeks contributed 13. Cheyenne Zuiderveen provided a spark off the bench with eight. Micah Lajewski paced Kalkaska (12-8) with 12 points and three assists. Taylor Kibby added nine points and Alexis Hayden eight rebounds.
At Lake City

Lake City 43
Glen Lake kept its season alive with a hard-fought 50-43 decision over host Lake City in a Class C opener. The Lakers (15-6) outscored Lake City 8-4 over the final two minutes of play to secure the win and advance to the tourney semifinals at home Wednesday against Manton.
Senior Jordan Peplinski tallied 13 to lead a balanced scoring chart for the Lakers. Freshman guard Kelly Bunek hit for 11, including two key jumpers in the fourth quarter, each coming after Lake City got to within a point. McKenna Turrill scored 10 and Alex LaCross hit for eight.
Senior Maggie Eising led all scorers with 18 points to go with 10 rebounds and six steals for Lake City. McCord canned 12 points with five boards. Makayla Schichtel grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots.
Elk Rapids 61
Boyne City 45
Bridget Hintz had a game-high 26 points as Elk Rapids defeated Boyne City 61-45 in district play.
Rachel Hintz added 17 points and Paige Granger 13 for the Elks (14-7), who led 35-19 at half. Rainy McCune netted 22 for Boyne City. The Elks face Johannesburg-Lewiston on Wednesday.
East Jordan 70
East Jordan advanced to Wednesday’s semi-finals with a 70-46 win over Mancelona.
Suttons Bay 59
Samara Slocombe and Delaney Kaufman recorded double-doubles as Suttons Bay beat Grand Traverse Academy 59-24 in a district game.
Slocombe finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds while Kaufman had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Sethe Zachman chipped in eight points for the Norse (10-11), who face Traverse City Christian on Wednesday.
Libby Munoz and Caitlin McKee combined for 45 points in Leland’s 54-39 district win over Northport.
Munoz finished with 30 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. McKee contributed 15 points and eight rebounds for the Comets (8-11), who take on Lake Leelanau St. Mary on Wednesday.
Mariah Kalchik and Morgan Collins had 14 points apiece for Northport.
At Central Lake
Central Lake 57
Mariah Cords scored 10 of her 12 points in the first quarter to spark Central Lake to a 57-7 district win over Alba.
The Trojans (14-7), who host Gaylord St. Mary on Wednesday, led 43-0 at half. Haley Patton added 10 points.
Bellaire opened a 14-point lead at half en route to a 46-20 win over Ellsworth.
Leighten Koepke led the Eagles (18-3) with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. Madalyn Balon added 10 points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Bellaire faces Boyne Falls on Wednesday.
