Charges filed in Barlow St. bust

TRAVERSE CITY — Three suspects arrested in a Traverse Narcotics Team drug bust at a Barlow Street residence face drug charges.

Andrew Kurt Barkley, 34, of Detroit, and Gabriel William Edgley, 28, of Traverse City, are accused of maintaining a drug house at 1002 Barlow in Traverse City.

Traverse Narcotics Team detectives on Feb. 13 arrested Barkley, Edgley, Andrea Johanna Ashley, 31, of Interlochen, and two others on unrelated warrants after they entered the residence armed with a search warrant. Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney said he’s reviewing police reports and additional charges are “always a possibility.”

“We’re still gathering information,” Cooney said.

Court documents state a witness told detectives that Edgley sold her heroin and that Barkley supplied Edgley with the drug. The residence search netted scales, plastic bags, packaging materials, spoons, needles and other evidence, according to the documents. Detectives also found cash when they searched Barkley outside the house.

“They seized from (the) defendant’s person $4,500 in various denominations in several pants pockets,” the documents state.

Barkley appeared by video Wednesday for arraignment in 86th District Court on charges of conspiracy to deliver or manufacture a controlled substance, maintaining a drug house and possession of marijuana. He’s also charged as a habitual offender from a 1995 armed robbery conviction.

Edgley also appeared by video for arraignment Wednesday on slightly different charges of delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance less than 50 grams, conspiracy to deliver or manufacture a controlled substance and maintaining a drug house.

Ashley faces a felony drug possession charge after authorities found her in a bedroom and searched her purse, where they found a small brown “rock” of suspected heroin, court documents state.

The Barlow case wasn’t the only recent TNT investigation in Traverse City that led to heroin-related charges.

On Feb. 11, officers arrested Tate Allen Andrews, 28, of Kalkaska, and Lisa Rena Domke, 25, of Alden, on heroin possession and maintaining a drug house charges. Court documents state TNT detectives found drug paraphernalia and a syringe in a room occupied by both suspects. A preliminary examination is scheduled for March 3.
