Accused Facebook falsifier found in Las Vegas

TRAVERSE CITY — Las Vegas police arrested a Traverse City woman who’s wanted on local charges that she altered Facebook messages in an attempt to exonerate a boyfriend who stood trial for abusing her teenage son.

Christine Paige Borrowdale, 39, faced an 86th District Court warrant on perjury and tampering with evidence charges since October, but she managed to avoid arrest until Thursday.

Grand Traverse County sheriff’s Capt. Randy Fewless said a probation officer in January received a tip that Borrowdale could be staying in Las Vegas. He said a sheriff’s detective then reached out to Las Vegas police, who ended the four-month search for Borrowdale.

“They were able to locate Borrowdale and take her into custody,” he said.

In June, Borrowdale took the stand in the 86th District Court trial of her boyfriend, Andre Anthony LeBlanc, 39, who stood accused of abusing her son, then 16. She testified she had printouts that showed her son was engaged in a Facebook conversation at the time of the alleged abuse, according to the police report.

But prosecutors and sheriff’s deputies quickly found evidence calling Borrowdale’s testimony and evidence into question. The police report states a forensic examination found the time zone on Borrowdale’s computer was switched and that could change the times in a Facebook conversation.

Court documents state Borrowdale denied under oath that she altered the records.

LeBlanc served a 5-day jail sentence and remains on probation after a jury found him guilty of fourth-degree child abuse. Borrowdale faces charges that carry a 15-year maximum prison sentence.

Fewless didn’t know how long Borrowdale stayed in Las Vegas. He said the extradition process to return her to Grand Traverse County will begin soon.
