TRAVERSE CITY -- Developers want Garfield Township officials to allow them to raise the square footage of a building slated to hold a Panera Bread restaurant.
Garfield's planning commission that year approved a 8,500-square-foot building to go on the Hertz rental site on the corner of Franke Road and U.S. 31. The building would host Panera Bread, a St. Louis-based bakery and café chain, as well as an unknown commercial site.
Tonight, the township’s planning commission will consider a request to add another 509-square feet to the retail portion of the building and another 50-square feet to the Panera side, said planning director Rob Larrea.
“Their request is considered minor, so they should be able to address it tonight at the meeting,” Larrea said.
The planning commission will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Garfield Township Hall.
The developer, Kentucky-based Anchor Properties, is expected to begin construction in the spring.
