TRAVERSE CITY — It took crews with the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department more than a half-day and 100,000 gallons of water to control a massive fire at a Garfield Township tree service business.
Crews went to Leonardo's Tree Service off U.S. 31 on Saturday at about 7:30 p.m. About one acre of densely piled wood chips, tree parts and other wood scraps caught fire. Flames were estimated to be 30 feet high, Assistant Chief Terry Flynn said.
No structures were damaged, Flynn said. It took crews at least 12 hours to control the fire.
