Two hospitalized in Alba crash

ALBA — A Traverse City man suffered a head injury and was airlifted by helicopter from the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Chestonia Township.

The accident occurred Monday at about 3 p.m. when a Chevrolet Impala made a left turn from Alba Highway toward the south lane of US 131 and was struck by a northbound Michigan Department of Transportation stake truck.

Authorities believe the Impala’s driver, a 32-year-old Traverse City man, did not yield to traffic at the stop sign.

“Basically he stopped but when he pulled out he didn’t see the vehicle,” said Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean.

The driver received a closed head injury and was transported to Munson Medical Center by a North Flight EMS helicopter.

His passenger, a 30-year-old Traverse City woman, was transported to the hospital by ambulance for minor injuries.

Bean did not have information on their current status.

The MDOT stake truck driver, a 32-year-old Traverse City man, was not injured.
